My name is Lora McClain, and I’m the proud author of I Need You To Know: The ABC’s of Black Girl Magic and I Need You To Know: The ABC’s of a Young King’s Greatness — positive-affirmation coloring books created especially for Black and Brown children everywhere. I’m so excited to share this journey with you!

What began as a heartfelt idea blossomed into something far greater than I ever imagined. My first book, inspired by the brilliance of little girls like my granddaughter, nearly sold out on Amazon and sparked an outpouring of requests: “We need one for our boys too!” That moment led to the birth of my second book dedicated to our Young Kings.

The entire series was inspired by the joy of my life — my first grandchild, Miss Eden Estelle. When I couldn’t find a single activity book in mainstream stores that looked like her or celebrated her features, I decided to create one myself. The “I Need You To Know…” coloring books are filled with beautiful, diverse illustrations — paired with uplifting A-to-Z affirmations that teach confidence, culture, and pride.

And guess what? These books have proven to be so much more than coloring pages. They’ve become tools for healing, empowerment, and joy. Therapists, physicians and educators have used them with their patients and students. Women of all ages — from teens to grandmothers — tell me how relaxing and therapeutic coloring has become in their day-to-day lives. Grab your favorite drink, unwind, and just color — it’s truly soul-soothing.

This work has become my mission. As parents and caregivers, we shape the messages our children receive. If we are the first gatekeepers of their content, then let’s give them something that educates, inspires, and uplifts. My passion is rooted in serving our community — especially our young girls, our young kings, and the women who pour into them. What started as a book has grown into a movement.
